DR. ERIKA CRAVALHO-MEYERS

Dr. Erika K. Cravalho-Meyers is an educator, practitioner researcher, and transformational leader with over 19 years of experience in diverse educational systems. Her background includes middle level education, where she taught English and social studies for five years. This included her being a middle school lead, team lead, and content lead collaborating with other teacher leaders and administration to support growth. Over the last 14 years, Erika served as a Curriculum Coordinator and Instructional Development and Support Director, where she designed collaborative environments to support teachers’ development of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Erikaʻs most recent work includes leading the growth and development of staff, striving to create a work environment that focuses on elevating the voices of those she works alongside as well as those they are in service to.
Erika believes in innovation and supports the ongoing process of reflecting and refining practice to create an environment centered on the those it serves. Community engagement plays a critical role and Erika aims to create and manage spaces that intentionally hear and design towards the needs of the community. As a leader, Erika capitalizes on the expertise and knowledge of those she is working with, using varied processes to build individual and collective capacities. Her experience includes leading and facilitating others through meaningful dialogue and activities focused on structures that best support professional growth through research-based strategies and varied forms of assessments.
Erika holds a BS in Social Studies and MA in Secondary Education from Chaminade University. She received her Ed.D. in professional educational practice from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Her doctoral research examined the experiences that foster synergy within teacher leader communities and her research foci included synergy, team dynamics, innovation, teacher leadership, and curriculum development.
